Whilst attending Public School, the Music department suggested I begin music theory lessons as part of my GCSE Music Course leading to AS Level. I was playing the violin and bagpipes, but this was my first exposure to music theory. The school suggested I should start with the Grade 4 theory.
Being Dyslexic with neurological diversities, I struggled to keep up with the pace of the coursework, often not fully grasping the understanding required.
Rachel offered to assist and quickly identified that I was lacking some of the basic knowledge. She was truly absolutely fantastic, taking me back to the basics of 1 Music Theory. Whilst working at a suitable pace, everything was taught and repeated until she was confident that I was up to a very high standard before entering me for each exam. Her tuition continued to enhance my knowledge up to and including ABRSM Grade 5.
Due to her personal diligence, she will not enter anyone into an exam unless she is confident that the pupil has exceeded the knowledge and has fully understood each stage of the syllabus.
Rachel has extremely high standards and insists that our aim was not just to pass exams but that my knowledge and understanding were the main areas for her lessons. Ultimately, she was confident that her tuition would surpass the knowledge required for the exams.
This bore fruit in my results when I passed ABRSM Grades 1 to 4 with Distinctions and Grade 5 Merit, very narrowly missing out on yet another Distinction.
